Paignton Rotary is a keen supporter of Shelterbox. This charity was founded by the Rotary Club of Helston (Cornwall) in 2000, and has evolved as an independent charity, but remains an international partner of Rotary. It is fully supported by the UN humanitarian units.
Shelterbox has responded to over 250 disasters and humanitarian crises in almost 90 different countries, and provided emergency aid for well over one million people. Starting with familiar green boxes that provided a survival kit for a family of ten, including tents, water purification equipment, utensils, and cooking facilities, it now provides tailor-made solutions depending on the particular needs in each disaster. Its aim is to provide emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their homes by conflict and natural disaster.
Our club has funded over 50 boxes through donations, street collections, and social events.
