The 17th March 2016 saw a triple celebration for the Café and they celebrated it in some style.
A trip to Newquay Zoo was organised, including coach travel, entrance and an excellent buffet lunch to which were invited all our guests and their carers, all our volunteers/cake makers together with their spouses. We were very fortunate to be able to cover all the costs ourselves so everyone attending had a free day out. In the event 34 people attended and had a wonderful time.
The first cause for celebration was that the Café has been running for six whole years and is as busy and, we hope, appreciated as ever. The Committee work very hard to ensure that our guests are well catered for and get a lot of enjoyment. The carers always appreciate a little bit of respite and the opportunity to network in the Carer’s Circle.
The second cause for celebration was the 85th birthday of our esteemed Secretary, Geoffrey Phipps, who combines the Café job effortlessly with being President of this Rotary Club. Below is a picture of him next to the pen of a marmoset that is nearly named after him. And to be certain we were all safe, a meerkat kept watch while trying to persuade us to get “cheap car insurance”!!!
The third celebration was St Patrick’s Day and it was thanks to the luck of the Irish that the weather was perfect and enhanced people’s enjoyment enormously.
We are now looking forward to our 7th Anniversary.
