The Toy Shop project is managed by a committee consisting of Mike Sharpe, Geoffrey Phipps, Walter Gubbins and Martin Austen. We asked Martin in September how it had gone:
"The total sales so far across both shops are £12,124.30 and that has been achieved as a result of a terrific club effort with nearly all members helping in some way. There is still a considerable amount of stock left and the committee are looking to open the Toy Shop again in Lostwithiel for Christmas sales, probably at the tail end of November and the beginning of December."
While there is no hurry to disburse the money raised, the committee have asked club members to submit bids for worthwhile projects and the bids so far reflect the members' wishes to help children and young people, both home and abroad, including Rotary's own project to eliminate Polio. The committee will have a tough job deciding where the money should go, which will then be ratified by the whole club.
Reflecting on what the club had achieved, Martin concluded:
"Much against many people's expectations, it turned out that August was a good month to sell toys."
Park Market kindly allowed us to have a Toy Stall over the weekend of 13th to 14th December 2014. We could be found a little way in from the main entrance, down the left aisle.
We were to be found at the junction of Queen Street and Bodmin Hill, opposite the Kings Arms.
