On Wednesday 21st July 2021, Rotary Paul Williams was privileged to be invited to represent Ilfracombe Rotary Club at the Children’s Hospice South West – Little Bridge House, during a visit by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall.
This event was to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the charity being founded. HRH became the patron of this charity in 2013. A limited number of long time supporters were invited to the event and numbers were restricted because of Covid guidelines for health care facilities. The visit started at midday with the Duchess touring the facility at LBH and meeting staff and families before she jointly planted a tree in the family garden with a young family member.
It was in the family garden that the invited supporters were under gazebos in groups of 4 and after a short speech Camilla then worked her way around the supporters talking with them all. She was accompanied by Eddie Farwell, the co-founder of the hospice charity. The charity was founded in 1991 with LBH in place 5 years later. Our club began supporting the charity shortly after its beginning and has become one of the long term supporters of the charity.
Albeit Paul's chat with Camilla lasted only probably around 2 minutes she was very interested when told by Eddie that Ilfracombe Rotary Club did ‘mad things on Exmoor during the night, in winter’ Camilla praised the work of Rotary in our communities and thanked us for our work to support the hospice.
Camilla then completed her visit and left around 1pm.
