STEM in Schools

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Falmouth Rotary are supporting the advancement of these subjects in local schools.

June 2026

The STEM project is being renewed for another year. Falmouth Rotary have agreed to continue the project next year by supplying 3 data loggers to each school which will enable the children to ask a vast range of questions on science and physics and to get and assess answers. We are also asking local firms and people with a science background to come to the schools and talk about their experiences.

January 2026

The Rotary Club of Falmouth is supporting 10 local primary schools to strengthen and inspire STEM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) in schools. Falmouth Rotary Club is providing funds for specialist training and new science resources for the rest of this academic year. It is hoped that local firms will join the project and help to inspire our future engineers, scientists and problem solvers of the future.

November 2025 - Visit to a Special Needs Sensory Room

Penryn Primary Academy have a very competent and friendly team for children with special needs and Falmouth Rotary Club are pleased to have been able to support them by funding the repair and re-equipment of their sensory room. Three members of the club visited the school last Wednesday to see what had been achieved. When you enter the room you feel the calm and peace at once. Probably brought on by the steady rising bubbles in the pillar of light in the corner, but also by the attempts to provide comfort and support for the children to either lie or to sit. The children can play with a variety of equipment and effects – silence, quiet music, flashing lights or just coloured light. A place to lie and relax in or a very comfortable and supportive chair. A marked contrast to the room it replaced and a great help in the management of a child’s mood. We came away glad that we had been able to support the school’s excellent Team in this way and so enable them to manage the moods of the children even more effectively. (Rtn John Pearce).
