Aberdeen in Sierra Leone is a village on the southern outskirts of Freetown. many of these Aberdonians are poor and a major part of their livlihood comes from selling their produce at an outdoor market in the village. Unfortunately Sierra Leone has a high rainfall which often makes it impossible to hold the market, adding to the difficulties of these people. It was their dream to have a covered area in which the market could be held in any weather and the Rotary Club of Aberdeen Scotland committed to raise funds and build it for them.
Work started in early April and was opened by President David Peters of the Rotary Club of Aberdeen Scotland on June 1st 2006
