Global Grant Scholarships 2015-2016
Information for Applicants and Rotary Clubs
The Rotary District 1190 (Cumbria & Lancashire) Global Scholarship is available for a student to study at postgraduate level at an overseas institution of higher education. The Scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis.
The Global Scholarship Grant is $30,000 and is funded by Rotary District 1190 and Rotary International. Rotary District 1190 comprises 71 Rotary Clubs, with over 2000 members. The scholarship is our contribution to tuition fees and living costs for the student studying at an overseas institution of higher education during the academic year 2015-16.
The Rotary Foundation is Rotary's own charity. It has become one of the foremost non-governmental foundations with the educational support programme being the largest private scholarship endowment in the world, raising over $50M a year.
The Rotary Foundation first awarded scholarships in 1947. As well as the academic benefit of studying at an overseas university, Rotary Scholarships give students an opportunity to visit Rotary Clubs and mix with Rotarians and their families from a wide range of backgrounds. This enables students to get a greater insight into the country they are visiting.
Made up of over 34,000 Rotary clubs around the world, Rotary International (RI) forms a global network of business, professional, and community leaders who volunteer their time and talents to serve communities locally and around the world – and form strong, lasting friendships in the process. Our motto, Service Above Self, exemplifies the humanitarian spirit of the 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide. Service efforts are directed toward our six areas of focus:
- Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
- Disease prevention and treatment
- Water and sanitation
- Maternal and child health
- Basic education and literacy
- Economic and community development
