An update on Womens' Aid

Today’s speaker was Jo Newman, Housing Manager  N.E.Lincs Women’s Aid.

Jo said that Women’s Aid provides a refuge and an emergency service for women experiencing domestic abuse and they range in age from 16 to the 80’s. They have 15 units (always full) for families as well as single people. It's a 24 hour service and there is outreach support for those who canot leave their home.

The biggest issue is suitable accommodation and unfortunately there are some rogue landlords. To help solve the problem they have bought 13 properties and are working with landlords."We endeavour to improve a person's self confidence and self esteem" said Jo.

Unfortunately they have 100 to 120  children who  need support but there are no funds available and so money raised in their charity shops helps.

"The issue" said Jo "is how do we break the cycle of abuse and observed behaviour of adults by children? Early intervention is important and education so we are working in schools."

President Stuart presented Jo with a cheque.
