Supporting Somerset & Dorset Air Ambulance

They can only save lives with our combined support.

Wells Rotary is planning 2 events for September to raise funds in support of the Somerset & Dorset Air Ambulance.

Our first event will be a light-hearted evening of theatre at St Cuthbert’s Church Wells on Saturday the 7th September at 19.00, when Alison Neil will entertain us with the mesmerising story of Mary Anning, otherwise known as the Fossil Lady of Lyme.

Then on the 29th of the month we will be staging the Wells Sedan Chair Steeplechase in central Wells, based in and around the Recreation Ground. Local organisations and clubs are invited to submit teams of 5 (4 porters and 1 passenger) who, in fancy dress, will gallop around a set course of obstacles carrying a Sedan Chair, which at some point will be disassembled, passed through a gap, reassembled, and then conveyed onward with a change of passenger. Other obstacles will be just as fiendish. Each circuit will be timed.

For both events we are already looking for event sponsors. Sponsors will receive full recognition on all promotional material both before and at the events, complementary tickets, and for the Sedan Chair Race the opportunity to triumph and win everlasting fame, hot showers, and copious draughts of rehydration fluid!!

However, the main benefit of sponsoring one or other or even both events will the knowledge that you have helped us make a real difference to the lives of others in our community.

In 2000 Rotarians from Wells trekked out to a remote area in North Nepal to build a health clinic. They came up with the idea of holding an annual Boules Tournament to support the clinic and the rest is history.

Held annually in the Bishop's Palace gardens in the centre of Wells, the Wells Charity Boules Tournament is a fun event for all of the family.
