The following report 'What's New Pussycat' is Jake 'In his Own Write!'
Hi Folks, it’s me, “Jake” le Setter and I am an Irish Setter Gundog, better known as a Red Setter.
At the District 1040 Rotary Conference at last October I stuttered my paws along the beach (getting sponsorship for the number of paw steps I’d do in one hour exactly). I was fitted with a FitBit so my paw steps were accurate). My aim was to be able to buy a couple of Robotic Therapy Cats for dementia patients in our area.
Well, I achieved my aim and was so delighted I woofed with joy – got a piece of cake for my efforts too.
The 1st cat – named “Hope” was presented on Monday 14th January to the Memory Lane Day Care Centre, Yeadon. In the photo you can see (L-R) Jean Booth, Tracy Locke, Aireborough Rotary President Brian Whitham, Mitzi Whitham and my owner Sally Mohan (Rotary Community Chair).
It was great to hear from Sally that in the afternoon one of the members spent all afternoon petting Hope and enjoying talking to her. Wowzer – job done!
The 2nd. cat 'Jake' was presented to Sunningdale Nursing Home in Rawdon by our third President of the year Barry Bootland to the manager Kate Friel and her staff with organiser Sally Mohan as ever in attendance
Watch this space for next year as I am going to do something different at Conference to raise more money for 2 more cats for dementia patients in our area (Aireborough Rotary has always covered 4 areas Rawdon, Yeadon, Guiseley and Horsforth). If you fancy sponsoring me please contact Aireborough Rotary.
When I am not doing things for Rotary – I am a Show Dog and Gundog. I love working the ring and “setting” squirrels (my favourite) and birds as well, but all in play with no harm done. I do other things too but that’s another story!!
To those who sponsored me, my paws thank you.
