It was a return visit to the lunch time meeting for three pupils from Healing Academy. Previously they were asking for assistance to travel and work in Cambodia. The club donated £150 to each of the female pupils, but they had to come back and tell us about their experiences.

Individually, they had to raise £4000 for the trip and this was achieved in a variety of ways including coffee mornings and car boot sales. They were all successful and travelled to Cambodia where they were in a party of about 20 girls from around the world.

Having arrived in the country they did a bit of sight seeing before going to the rural village where the hard work began. Their task was to build a toilet block and help in the local school. They had to dig a 1.5 metre circular pit and then construct concrete rings to slot into the pit. No concrete mixer, so it was all by hand.  Once this was complete they constructed a wall.  Whilst there they ate the local food.

The girls helped in the local school and purchased books and supplies for the pupils.  This made then appreciate how easy it is in the UK to go to school and have the necessary supplies. The villagers were very grateful for the construction of the toilet block.

At the end of the  project they were able to do a bit more sight seeing on a jungle trek and  visit to  the temples of Angkor Wat.

The girls has brought a photo album of their trip and this was circulated.  What was most memorable? The answers included; building the toilet, its appreciation by the villagers and teaching at the school.
