The lunchtime speaker today was Rev. Andrew Dodd from the Minster. This is the second time that Andrew has spoken to the club.
Today he was talking about the public consultation ..."Square Roots"., but before he started he told us that the clock is now working (we had contributed £400). Andrew highlighted what activities the Minster was undertaking in the community. This includes;
St James as the centre, meals and food St Hughs, St Martins.. theatre, Credit Union, WEA activities, and they also support the food bank..
St James' house is now closed and it is to be re built and this gives us an opportunity ie a catalyst for us to do more for the Town Centre. The have a number of jig saw pieces, but what is missing? What could, or rather what are people from the community looking for from the Minster? For example, providing support in times of mental distress. Andrew had been to visit a church in London for ideas. As an example of need, he said that of the people attending a GP service 20% was for medical reasons but the other 80% were there for a social needs. Could we do something (like the London church) in Grimsby?
That was the reason behind the consultation process. Andrew said that there was going to be road shows, on line consultation, and two public drop in sessions at the Minster. All participants could enter for the prize draw and the prize was the Grimsby Monopoly Game!
We wished him all the best in his endeavour.
