Rotary Club Supports Defibrillator at Westlands Hotel
The Bridge of Allan and Dunblane Rotary Club has contributed £1,000 towards the purchase of a defibrillator to be located in the Westlands Hotel in Dunblane, where the Club holds its weekly meetings. Members had agreed that there was a need for a defibrillator to provide for incidents of cardiac arrest in this area of Dunblane. President Mary Fraser spoke of the benefit to the community of having access to a defibrillator which could literally make the difference between life and death for those suffering from cardiac arrest.
Mo Simpson and John Fraser from the First Responders demonstrated the use of the defibrillator, emphasizing the need to provide CPR to the victim in conjunction with using the defibrillator. Once turned on, the defibrillator gives explicit instructions about how to operate it. Members were reassured that no special skills are required for operating it. The First Responders also demonstrated the actions to be taken if someone was choking. Members were then offered the opportunity to get hands-on experience of both giving CPR and using the defibrillator.
