Fiona Dick, who had been selected to attend a Rotary Young Leadership Award course, spoke to the Club about her experiences during the week-long course held in Abernethy. Fiona, who is entering Year Five at Dunblane High School, explained that the aim of the programme is to promote leadership skills, determination and self-confidence. During the week, the young people had talks from people who had demonstrated special leadership skills. They undertook various physical and intellectual challenges, including gorge walking, cliff climbing and canoeing, which involved leadership skills being tested. It was clear from Fiona’s talk that she felt that she had benefitted from her experience, and that while it had been testing, she had greatly enjoyed the activities. President Mary Fraser congratulated Fiona on her report and presented her with a certificate to record her achievement.

MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE
Andrew Hilley reported on an attempt by three members of the Club to climb the nine Munros which are over 4,000 feet. This sponsored initiative is to raise funds for Rotary Foundation, the worldwide Rotary charity which has been engaged in the struggle to defeat polio. While the group was successful in climbing their first target –Aonach Mor - the weather had deteriorated significantly while attempting the second summit – Aonach Beag - and they had to call off the attempt. However, subject to the weather, they are keen to return to the challenge.
