We were privileged to have as our speaker fellow Rotarian Liz Odell, a member of Nailsworth Rotary Club.
Liz has recently returned from working in Nepal as a Volunteer Team Leader for Shelter Box. The devastating earthquakes which occurred on 25 April and 12 May – 7.3 magnitude – killed 8.500 people and rendered many Nepalese people homeless and in need of Shelter Box and Shelter Tent help. Not only rural areas were affected but cities such as Kathmandu and Pokhara.
Liz experienced several violent after shocks of high magnitude and at times feared for her life. On more than one occasion she slept in the open as her personal safety would have been compromised if she had remained in a building.
Liz is to be congratulated on her willingness to be deployed to a disaster area at extremely short notice, putting her life on hold to cope with emergency situations.
Gill Rogers.
