At a joint meeting of Stonehouse and Stroud Rotary Clubs on 29 July a speaker from Cotswold Canals Trust set out the plans and programme for the Stage 1B canal restoration. David Groom spoke of the Heritage Lottery funding bid in preparation to seek £15 million funding next Spring.
Public Consultation in the Stonehouse, Eastington, Whitminster and Frampton area indicated a very high level of support for the canal project to connect the current 1A scheme to the Gloucester - Sharpness Canal.
Rotary members were invited to join CCT, volunteer expertise and support fund raising.
David impressed members with the knowledge and commitment of the CCT team leading the canal project. Well done and good luck with the bid; Rotary is fully behind the scheme.
