May Ball

May ball and charity auction held jointly with Soroptomist International to raise funds for Homestart

Soroptimist International of King’s Lynn and Priory Rotary Club King’s Lynn May Ball and Charity Auction

On Friday 1st May 2015, at The Le Strange Arms Hotel Hunstanton, 108 Soroptimists, Rotarians and guests joined together at a black tie ball and auction to raise over £3,400 in aid of Home-Start King’s Lynn and West Norfolk.

The evening began with a welcome by the two Presidents, Andrea Pearson for Soroptimist International and John Harrison for Priory Rotary, followed by a carved buffet. Margaret Tasker, Chair of Home-Start King’s Lynn, gave a heart-warming speech outlining the work they do giving much needed support and friendship to families in need of a helping hand.

Mr Jeff Hazel was the auctioneer for the night and encouraged bidders to part with their cash. Lots included flights in a light aircraft, original watercolours and a holiday in France. Alongside the main auction, there was a Silent Auction and Table Raffle for a case of Exhibition wine. The evening concluded with dancing to the George King Band.

This was the first joint venture for the two service organisations, who both have Home-Start as their charity for the year.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all and both organisations look forward to future collaborations. A cheque for Home-Start will be presented, later in the month, at the next Priory Rotary meeting.
