Lunch Meeting - Melanie Onn - Grimsby Labour Candidate

Wed, Feb 11th 2015 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

President Ian welcomes Melanie to the club

It was a pleasure to welcome Melanie Onn to the club today where she encountered some familiar faces from her school days at Healing, Deputy Head Roger Cropp and Geography teacher John Clark.

Melanie talked to us about her early life in Grimsby, attending local schools and college, University in London and her experiences of being a military wife.

She also talked about the challenge involved in being selected as a parliamentary candidate for the Labour Party. This is a process that can last up to 16 weeks and involves meeting all the local Labour Party members to present her priorities and policies.

Melanie is a keen supporter of Kinship Carers and took the opportunity to briefly explain about the charity and the need for fundraising. Kinship Care is the care given by grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles or other relatives of children who maybe separated from their parents.

The Club thanked her for an interesting talk and wished her well in the up and coming elections.  Rotarians Roger and John were congratulated and awarded 10/10 for Melanies education!
