Cathleen Hayes, Mablethorpe Rotarian talks about the Guilford Rotary Eye Project


Cathleen Hayes from Mablethorpe Rotary Club gave an interesting talk about the Guilford Rotary Eye Project which is an adopted district project.

There are 40 million avoidably blind worldwide, of which 15 million are in India, 3 million being in the Kolkata area.

In 1998 Guildford Rotarian S N Das MBE, an Eye Surgeon and Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon started the project in and around Kolkata with a personal ambition to restore the sight of 1,000,000 people!

The project is an avoidable blindness programme which serves those in India and Africa who are too poor to access their own medical care. The  focus is on cataract surgery, treatment of glaucoma, retinal detachment and diabetic retinopathy and provides:-
