Great Britain medal winner Dean

The problems athletes face getting funding for training and attending events were brought home to members of Barrow Rotary Club at their meeting at the Lisdoonie Hotel.

The speaker was Dwarf gold medal winner Dean Kelly who said he was allowed use of the gym facilties in Barrow Park but problems arose when he was invited to training events like sessions at Sheffield run by GB athletics coach Tim Shepherd.

When invited to sessions at Birmingham he has to be up at 3am to catch the train and is not home again until 11.45pm.
