President Martyn writes........

Last Thursday`s meeting had an excellent speaker namely Tiffany Allen who spoke on Leeds being a City of Sanctuary where potential asylum speakers flee their country of oppression and seek asylum in the UK. Whilst waiting for the result of their application for asylum they are befriended by volunteers from within the City and are shown how to get to their asylum application venue ,where they can get cheap food and if they have children where they can mix with other families .

She spoke passionately about her work and we left the meeting with a better understanding about the difficulties that would be asylum seekers face when coming to a strange city and country -she left an impression on many of us .

To remind you there is no meeting next Thursday and on 12th September the meeting is having a speaker Professor Michael Green on the reduction in murder .Michael is a well known speaker whose fame extends beyond the City.He is a most interesting speaker and he is a Professor of Forensics .The meeting is open to wives and partners and guests .If you are bringing any extra people please let Michael know in good time with dietary requirements .

There will be a Council meeting on 12th September at 6.30pm

I would like to wish members and their wives a speedy recovery from their present indispositions
