Rush Skateboard Park.
Jerry and Michelle Norman a few years ago found themselves,as parents of a young son mad keen on skateboarding, driving all over the country in search of the few skateparks with varying facilities for the burgeoning sports of skateboarding, BMX and scooters. Their growing dissatisfaction led them to accept the challenge to create one of their own, good enought to attract and be sustained by a clientele from both within and well beyond the county.
Following months of fustration searching for a suitable site/building, sponsors and support for funding, it all came true in 2013 with the fitting out and opening of a 40,000 sq ft covered disused warehouse at Brimscombe Port. Their subsequent auccess and progress could be seen in its claim now to be in the international league of such snterprises, hosting world standard events and performers as well as thriving local patronage.
Their "baby" had indeed grown and prospered to the inevitable extent that consolidation and/or further deveelopment would ptobably entail a broader base of management and expertise.
Wishing them well in their enterprise, we noted that its 24 strong staff includes 8 full-time, along with a comprehensive catering operation on-site.
Your reporter amongst others felt regret that he had left it a trifle late to take up the sport.
