THE CASTLE CARR FOUNTAINS
The 2017 opening of the Castle Carr Fountains will be held on SUNDAY 2nd JULY
On Sunday 2nd July, in the estate of Castle Carr, their famous gravity fed fountain will once again rise magnificently into the sky. Organised by the Rotary Club of Halifax, with the kind permission of Yorkshire Water and the land owner, it is again hoped the fountain will reach a height of over 100 feet. Last year’s event and fund raiser was watched by almost 1000 people on a bright, warm summer’s day.
This famous local landmark designed and built in the 1870’s comprises an ornamental water garden situated between two reservoirs. The garden consists of a main circular pool in the middle of which sits a single jet fountain. It attains a height that is only second in England, to that at Chatsworth House!
The format will follow the success of previous years with a 2.5 mile walk through the picturesque walk countryside, starting from the Cat I’th Well Inn at 12.00pm prompt, and led by members of the Rotary Club of Halifax. Suitable footwear should be worn as parts of the walk are wet, muddy and uneven and we try to control the weather but that's out of our hands! Car parking for walkers will be available in a field local to the Inn (weather permitting).
The estate will be open from noon until 3.00 pm and attendees who do not wish to accompany the guided walk can access the site via Castle Carr Road and park in the field at the top of the track leading to the estate. The walk from this point is just under 1 mile. There is a limited amount of space available for 'Blue Badge' holders to park at the bottom of the track. We are sorry but the final access to the Fountains is not suitable for wheelchair users or those with mobility difficulties.
The fountain itself will play from 2.00pm for just over 15 minutes and is a truly magnificent spectacle.
