On Tuesday 24 June, District 1260 members enjoyed a wonderful evening of fellowship during a visit to the Rotary Club of Berkhamsted Bulbourne, hosted at the historic Berkhamsted Town Hall.
Despite the exceptionally warm summer weather, 35 members and guests attended, creating a welcoming atmosphere that reflected the strong sense of friendship and community that Rotary is known for.
The club was delighted to welcome several visitors, including Rotarians from within District 1260, a visiting Rotarian from Cornwall, and guest speaker Yvonne Maduka, a Rotary Global Grant Scholar, whose attendance added an international dimension to the evening.
President-Elect Anne McCall also shared greetings from a recent visit to a Rotary club while on holiday in Italy, highlighting the global connections and fellowship that unite Rotarians around the world.
The evening began with an entertaining "Thought for the Day" from Dusty Miller, setting a relaxed and enjoyable tone before members sat down to a delicious meal of Quiche Lorraine followed by cheesecake.
The meeting also marked a significant milestone for President Chris de Lisle, as it was his final meeting in office. Chris rang the club bell for the last time to formally open and close the meeting, observing the traditional Loyal Toast and Rotary Toast that are such an important part of Rotary fellowship.
Adding a touch of humour to the occasion, Chris embraced the summer weather by swapping his usual formal attire for a colourful Hawaiian shirt and shorts—a fitting way to round off a successful presidential year.
District 1260 extends its sincere thanks to Chris for his dedication, leadership, and commitment throughout the past year, and wishes him every success in his continued Rotary journey.
The evening perfectly demonstrated the spirit of Rotary: bringing people together, strengthening international friendships, sharing ideas, and celebrating the positive impact Rotary clubs make in their communities.
Visits between clubs continue to strengthen relationships across District 1260, reminding us that Rotary is built on friendship, service, and collaboration.
