Ty Newydd and Rotary Clubs have been working together since 2008 to provide an annual programme
Dear Rotary Clubs and Officers,
My name is Miriam and I’m the Manager at Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre in Llanystumdwy, north Wales. We’re run by Literature Wales, the national charity with responsibility for developing Literature in Wales. We’ve been a writing centre for 35 years, and have been running an annual creative writing course for young people, sponsored by the Rotary Clubs, since 2008.
These courses provide young people ages 16+ with a fully-funded residential course at the Centre, tutored by two carefully selected tutors providing workshops and tutorials on all kinds of genres from poetry to fiction, and everything in between. We have capacity to host up to 14 young people per course, and during their time at Tŷ Newydd they will take part in workshops, one-to-one tutorials, group tasks and recreational activities such as walks along the costal path to nearby Cricieth to taste the world-famous Cadwalader’s ice cream. Over the years, students have often returned to Tŷ Newydd as adults, and fondly remember their experiences on our Rotary courses.
We have reserved dates for 2026, which are Monday 16 – Friday 20 February; and very much hope to be able to run it once more and further continue our commitment to providing worthwhile experiences to young writers from Wales and beyond. The sponsorship cost per student is £395, which remains the same as 2025. This is inclusive of all tuition, accommodation and full board at our centre. Actual costs for a week-long writing course as part of our general programme starts at £675 per person. Whilst we can reduce the costs for this particular course, sadly, we can’t fully-subsidise this course, and have therefore relied on generous support from Rotary Clubs to jointly support the talented young people to attend this course.
Should you be interested in sponsoring a young person from your district to attend this course, please do get in touch. You might already have connections with a local school or college, but if that isn’t yet established, we can assist in building those connections.
Tuesday 30 September 2025
Yours sincerely,
Miriam Williams
Manager, Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre
