Children's Fun Day

A day of fun and adventure for disabled or disadvantaged children.

A day of fun and adventure.

Rotary Children’s Fun Day 2025 (RCFD) provides positive experiences for some of the UK's most vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

The programme is organised by Rotary clubs across the country. It is supported by Kids in Mind, a children's charity that offers mental health and wellbeing support for children escaping domestic violence.

For more than three decades, Rotary has been giving disabled and disadvantaged young people the chance to enjoy new experiences, taste adventure and have fun trips and days out.

More than 1 million children have enjoyed a break from the ordinary in a range of ways.

  • Exciting activities within school settings
  • A taste of the arts with theatre visits
  • Trips out to theme parks, activity centres, zoos, seaside resorts and more

All of this is made possible thanks to Rotary clubs, who help to organise and fund activities, with many Rotary members also volunteering a helping hand.

It brings fun into the lives of children who often have come from difficult backgrounds, escaped domestic violence, or are disadvantaged in a number of ways.

For 2025, Rotary is planning to give at least another 30,000 children that special experience.

Wednesday 11th June 2025 is Rotary Children’s Fun Day, though this can be flexible.

Applications for funding of £5 per child will open Wednesday 15th January 2025.

Fun experiences for thousands of children!

Questions and Answers

ROTARY CHILDREN’S FUN DAY (RCFD)

What is Rotary Children’s Fun Day?

A new official Rotary GB&I service opportunity for members of Rotary helping young people, under the full branding and support of Rotary GB&I. RCFD includes not only a ‘Fun Day’ in June, but also the Rotary Christmas Toy Boxes (RCTB).

Why Rotary Children’s Fun Day?

Making the RCFD a Rotary GB&I project we aim to help more clubs to get involved so more children can benefit. We will increase the support available through the Rotary GB&I Specialist Adviser Teams and the Rotary Support Centre. With a dedicated Rotary GB&I RCFD Team we will leverage the experience and talents of its members to help secure a sustainable future for the RCFD and RCTB.

What District Support is there for RCFD and RCTB?

As well as support from the Rotary GB&I RCFD Team, most districts have their own RCFD Adviser.  Speak to the other members of your district team, including community, youth, public image, membership and direct membership, as well as your DG, to see how they can support RCFD and RCTB activities and outcomes in your area. Speak to your district foundation team to see if any District Grants from The Rotary Foundation are available to help with the RCFD costs.

Who is the RCFD Team Member liaison to the District Advisers for the RCFD?

Steve Cartwright, who has a wealth of experience, and he can be contacted through thefunday@rotarygbi.org email address.

What Date is RCFD?

Based around the second Wednesday in June it will be 11th June 2025, but this date is flexible.

Will there be a ‘Fun Day’ subsidy available for clubs?

Yes! The 2025 RCFD is being supported by the UK charity, Kids in Mind, who will provide a subsidy of £5 for every child sponsored by Rotary.

There is currently a cap of 30,000 children for 2025 which means a subsidy of £150,000 in total from Kids in Mind. If this increases by further funds becoming available from them, or from other supporting organisations, members of Rotary will be updated. If you know of other organisations or businesses that you think may be interested nationally then please email funday@rotarygbi.org.

What is a RCFD event ‘child’?

These may be children who, through mental and/or physical disability, family and/or monetary circumstances, young carers, or those who are vulnerable or otherwise disadvantaged who would not normally be able to enjoy experiences which most of us take for granted. Work with the ‘experts’ in your community who are the ones to identify the children they believe this opportunity should be made available to.

When will RCFD event registration be open?

Wednesday 15th January 2025. Be sure to read the monthly Humanitarian Service (HS) Newsletter which is part of the Service News delivered to every Rotarian’s email inbox on the 17th monthly. Be sure to click through to the full HS Newsletter as the Service News itself only highlights a few of the items of content in each of the Specialist Adviser Team’s newsletters.
