ROTARY – ‘Together, we see a world where people unite & take action to create lasting change - across the globe, in our communities & ourselves.’
Basingstoke Loddon Rotary has a diverse range of members, who enjoy meeting new people, volunteering, enjoying social events & the ever-important task of raising money for many worthy charities, both locally & internationally. Meeting twice a month at the Tang restaurant, in Winchester Street, Basingstoke.
Members & their partners have enjoyed social events together including speciality meals at local restaurants, Ten-pin bowling, treasure hunts, wine tasting, quiz nights, The annual president's night plus sporting activities such as Boules, Skittles and Golf to list just a few.
Rotary membership is fun, but our top priority is to help projects & activities that benefit your local community. We assist charities, such as St. Michael's Hospice in their fund-raising activities & we organise & run our own charity events. Including, Family Duck Race (not real ducks!), Pig Racing evening (not real pigs!), Curry & Karaoke nights and Christmas Hampers. We are also the top performer in the Basingstoke & Deane Community Lottery, donating locally to Camrose Centre, Home-Start, The Safe, The Community Foodlink, amongst others.
Our ‘International’ team are involved in organising the ‘Christmas Shoebox’ collection from local schools & arranging for the presents to be sent, via Rotary District 1110, to less fortunate children overseas.
The ‘Youth’ team run projects such as the ‘Rotary Technology Tournament’, which is a one-day annual competition held at Basingstoke College of Technology, involving students from local schools & colleges. A great day with teams designing & creating projects to solve practical problems, such as Retrieving a Radioactive Meteorite.
Basingstoke Loddon Rotary continue to support projects both locally & internationally. We’ve contributed to projects in Ukraine, donated to disaster situations such as the Oakridge Road Fire in Basingstoke, the covid appeal in India & the earthquakes in Turkey & Syria. Rotary also plays a major part in the effort to eradicate Polio worldwide.
This provides you with just a snapshot of what Rotary does & how you could help so many people, by joining as a ‘Full’ or ‘Associate member’. Other member benefits include business networking opportunities, personal development, meeting new people/new friends & hearing from inspiring speakers. All this & more, whilst having fun & experiencing that special sense of fulfilment that comes from helping others and achieving something worthwhile.
If you're interested in using some of your spare time, talents, professional skills, & energy to improve the lives of others in your local community, then Basingstoke Loddon Rotary is for you!
