Linking with BART

Following the model for collaborative environmental work developed by Rotary Clubs of Monmouth and Hereford City in our district, the Rotary Club of Bristol has formed a partnership with Bristol and Avon Rivers Trust (BART) a charity which delivers education, land and river management advice and practical river restoration work throughout the greater Bristol region. The Bristol Avon Catchment includes over 100 rivers, tributaries and brooks in the Avon urban and rural catchments as well as the South Gloucestershire drainage Rhines which are key to the region’s flood defences. District Grants

Grants of up to £500 to Clubs matching their own expenditure on environmental

projects.

District grants have been awarded for

- Community Gardens

- Citizen Science and river testing

- Tree planting

- Community Wildflower nursery

Examples of possible projects are:

· Rotakids and Interact environmental projects within the National Curriculum

· Community gardens/orchards

· Stream, restoring ponds, river and beach cleaning

· Tree planting and maintaining in public spaces

- Organising green careers event for schools

· Projects aiming to reduce use of plastics and towards zero carbon use

- International environmentally focused District or Global Grant projects

A panel of the current District Governor,  Environment Chair and Treasurer will

evaluate the applications.

We are asking Clubs to monitor and review the projects for impact and effect over a

six- month period, and also identify whether the project. concept might be suitable for

use by other clubs either in D1100 or wider afield.
