Rotary Personal Profile February 2017
Rotary Experience and Interests. I joined Rotary in 2007 shortly after my club Nailsworth, chartered. At that time I could not have imagined that within 10 years I would be District Governor Elect 2017-18. Rotary experience within Nailsworth Rotary includes President 2010-11, Membership Chair, and Safeguarding Officer. In 2014 I was asked to become an Assistant District Governor for Area 4 in District 1100, which I have found hugely rewarding. The Assistant Governor role has given me the opportunity to get to know more about the 9 Clubs in the Area and has enabled me to make Rotary friends across the District. During the same period, I have held the role of District Safeguarding Officer. I am now on the journey of preparation for District Governor 2018-19 and my particularly interested include Club support, Clubs working together and the management of change. |
Professional Background My professional life has been in education and training, firstly in schools, then later after retraining, in Adult and Further Education. I managed youth and adult training programmes in Further Education Colleges, before joining Gloucestershire Probation Service where I managed education and training of offenders which was the most rewarding part of my career. |
Personal Life Born in Northern Ireland, I was educated there and in England. I am married to David, a Rotarian in Stroud and we have 2 children and 2 grandchildren. Outside Rotary, my interests include Scouting, particularly in Gloucestershire where I was County Commissioner for 7 years, then Chair of the Board of Trustees. I have also worked at HQ level as a member of several committees and was part of the UK support team at the Wold Scout Centenary Jamboree in 2007. Within Scouting my particular interests were Adult Training and Safeguarding. To relax I enjoy spinning, craft work, Mothers Union and the company of friends. |
