A series of projects carried out by Rotary Clubs in the District

Rotary Club of Kimbolton Castle

Reponding
A working party of 11 Rotarians and 3 Kimbolton residents gathered on Parish Council land adjacent to the river Kym in Kimbolton, completing the excavation and installation of a 7m x 7m wildlife pond. During the excavation, remains of a WW2 shelter were unearthed. Spades were wielded to carve from the clinging clay a series of ledges to receive emergent plants at a later date. With underlay and .75mm thick rubber line in place, water was pumped from the swollen Kym to fill the pond in around an hour. The pond will form a focus of visits for years to come as it is planted and developed with perching sticks, pond dipping platform and probably an information board. Great fun was had by all. It will form a hub for biodiversity improvements in the area.

Tree Planting

15 fruit trees funded by Kimbolton Castle Rotary Club were planted by five volunteers to form the KImbolton Community Orchard! All old Cambridge varieties !

Litter Picking
A collective effort to rid a significant stretch of very wide verges on the approach to Kimbolton. Great team work in clearing up the mess left in the most part by a significant number of inconsiderate people !

Rotary Club of Northampton

Bird & Bug Boxes

Peter Davies, 92 - honorary member of Northampton building swift, tit, owl and bug boxes for his local community.

Rotary Club of Kettering Huxloe

Litter Picking

We organised a community litter pick at The Green Patch. This is a community garden open to the public twice a week with the remainder of the week being a place to assist with youth programmes and schools. We all enjoyed a cuppa and a cake along with a tour of the Green Patch. Harriet was lucky enough to feed the chickens and take home the eggs!

13 bags of rubbish collected, along with 2 bags of cans for recycling and a load of fly tipping (including a massive trampoline).
