2026 Disability Games

April 12th 2026 at Ratcliffe College, Ratcliffe on the Wreake

The 2026 District 1070 (Rotary in the East Midlands) took place on Sunday April 12th at Ratcliffe College.  This is the third year that the Rotary Clubs in Leicester and Leicestershire have put on the Games at Ratcliffe College with the permission of Headmaster Jon Reddin and our thanks go to both him and the School Events Lead Mrs Alisha Darby.  In 2024 we had a named storm, last year we had unseasonably warm weather and this year it felt like Christmas!  Sadly despite the valiant efforts of Soar Valley Archers and Wreake Valley RC the weather eventually won with a premature end to the Archery.  Otherwise all the other events went ahead as planned.  All the participants throughly enjoyed the day, win or lose.

Once again the competitors lunches were provided by Tony Parris, RC Blaby, who also did a brisk trade with his food stall.  Mosaic 1898 once again sponsored the programmes.  Physfit Sileby provided the professional Fitness Suite support free of charge.  We were also very grateful for the First Aid cover provided by John Dehnel and Richard Bloxham-Smith and  Alison Blythe (RC Melton Mowbray) for sponsoring the medals and trophies.  Mark Arjoo once again kept strict radio discipline!

We had 125 competitors take part on the day, getting involved in over 400 discrete activities.  The competitors were drawn from 17 organisations arriving from destinations including Leicester, Lincoln, Lutterworth, Melton, Northampton, Nottingham, Oakham, Peterborough, Ramsey, Sleaford, Spilsby and Sutton on Sea.  These participants were each supported by enthusiastic carers, parents, siblings, friends and of course, their teammates.

Each event was run by an individual Rotary Club with the following Clubs all contributing: Blaby, Bradgate, Leicester, Leicester De Montfort, Ashby Castle, Oadby, Market Harborough, Melton Mowbray, Lutterworth, Wreake Valley.

We were also supported by many other individual Rotarians, friends and family with overall about 100 volunteers running the event.

We were honoured with the presence of Deputy Lord Lieutenant Rory Underwood who demonstrated that rugby wasn't his only skill with a fine display on the Table Tennis table.

The event now moves on to Northamptonshire for the 2027 event.
