NEW- Juniors Speak

A public speaking event for year 5-6 children (age 9-11) A fun way to learn a new skill and build confidence !

Juniors Speak is a wonderful opportunity for year 5-6 children to share an interest, build valuable life skills experience and build their confidence in public speaking.

This Rotary initiative aims to provide primary school children with an opportunity to speak, for two or three minutes, about a subject of their own choice, before an audience of their peers, parents, teachers, and Rotarians.

The Benefits

Junior Speaks is a worthwhile learning experience that helps children to feel a sense of success and make an important contribution to their participation in the wider community.

The event has proved to be very popular where it has been held elsewhere, with both schools and pupils keen to take part.

Although a number of local schools are invited to take part together this is not a competition between pupils or schools, but solely an opportunity for individual children to experience public speaking, possibly for the first time.

Schools are invited to enter up to five, year 5 or 6 children, with each child being asked to speak for 2-3 minutes on their chosen topic, using a limited number of props, should they so wish.

Several schools in a neighbourhood may send pupils to take part on any given evening with numbers limited to about 20 children to avoid making the evening overly long.

Each child is presented with a badge, a certificate, and a small gift in recognition of their contribution and as a reward for their efforts. Free refreshments are served at the end of each evening. All provided by Rotary.

"Thank you for giving our children this wonderful opportunity!"
