Update on Hurricane Beryl
Hurricane Beryl, the first major storm of the season, has made devastating landfall in the Caribbean. An estimated 200,000 people – the entire populations of Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines have been affected. We have never seen a hurricane of this size form this early in the year. Update on Morocco
A ShelterBox team is in Morocco working in partnership with Moroccan authorities and other national NGOs Rotary has helped connect them with. One key meeting included District 9010’s own District Governor, Saadia Aglif, Past District Governor Said Nejjar and a Rotarian from Marrakesh, Jalal Zemmama. Their response in Morocco is helping support thousands of people left homeless by thecearthquake. They are working hard to get tents, thermal blankets, solar lights, and kitchen sets to communities without adequate shelter in mountain villages. Some villages have largely been reduced to rubble, leaving people with little option but to sleep out in the open or in communal tents. See more info by clicking Here
Update on Libya
ShelterBox are supporting people whose homes have been severely damaged or washed away by flood waters, in partnership with ACTED (the French non-governmental humanitarian organisation - Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development). A ShelterBox response team is deploying to neighbouring Tunisia to meet with their partners to confirm what is needed and what aid they’ll provide together. They have partnered with ACTED before – including in Libya in 2011 and most recently in Nigeria (2021) and Moldova (2022). See more info by clicking Here
