The second local heat of the Rotary Young Musician Competition took place this afternoon, at the Morlais Hall, Ferndale.
Today’s competition was for the Young Instrumentalist category.
Another excellent turnout with seven students, representing five schools, as shown below, made for an enjoyable and competitive afternoon.
The accompanist for the competition was once again Stewart Roberts and solo adjudicating today was Fred Nicholas.

Each competitor received a certificate from Rhondda Rotary President Martyn Lyons for their entry, but like all competitions there can only be one winner.
After much deliberation, the decision of the adjudicator was that the winner of the competition was:
Daniel Wright from Ysgol Garth Olwg with his piano performance.
Daniel now goes forward to the Rotary District Final and hopefully the National Final, which will be held in April 2026.
Ysgol Garth Olwg also receive a Shield to display at the school for the next year.
A big thank you to not only the students for entering, but also to Stewart and Fred again, for their continued support of the competition. A big thanks also to Rotarian Martin Nagle for organising today’s competition and the Vocalist competition held on 12 November.
Congratulations to Daniel and good luck in the future competitions.
