Dr Graham's Homes were founded in the Indian Himalayas in 1900 by a Church of Scotland missionary working to meet the needs of "tea garden children" - Anglo-Indian children rejected by communities and living in poverty. The initiative was one of many founded by the energetic minister: he established a hospital, a multi-workshop craft industry to develop local income, and a leprosy treatment centre.
The school has developed from small beginnings, building on its "cottage home" system to what is now a "Children's City" across 100 acres where the children still live in cottages, with a 1300-pupil educational complex including sports and arts facilities.
Dr Graham's Homes sponsors students through the school alongside fee-paying pupils.
