New Inclusive Playground

Funded through a Rotary Global Grant from The Rotary Foundation, the playground will give children with additional learning needs and disabilities the opportunity to enjoy outdoor play in a safe, accessible and inclusive environment.

This is a proud milestone as it is the first time Rotary District 1150 (Southern Wales) has successfully secured a Rotary Global Grant from The Rotary Foundation to support disadvantaged children within its own District.
A huge thank you to every Rotary club, donor, volunteer and supporter who helped make this project possible.  Together, we have created a lasting legacy that will bring joy, inclusion and opportunities for children for many years to come. 

Yesterday marked the end of a remarkable two-year journey of vision, determination and collaboration as pupils at Canolfan Elfed Inclusion Centre in Carmarthen, West Wales, officially opened their new inclusive playground.

What began as a simple conversation grew into an ambitious project to ensure that children with additional learning needs and disabilities could enjoy the same opportunities for outdoor play as every other child. Thanks to a Rotary Global Grant from The Rotary Foundation, that vision has now become a reality.
This project is especially significant because it is the first time Rotary District 1150 (Southern Wales) has successfully secured a Rotary Global Grant from The Rotary Foundation to support disadvantaged children within its own District. It demonstrates that Rotary’s global reach can have a life-changing impact in our own local communities.

The new playground provides a safe, stimulating and fully accessible environment where pupils of all abilities can play together, develop confidence, build friendships and simply enjoy being children. Seeing the smiles on the pupils’ faces at the opening ceremony reminded everyone why Rotary exists: to create lasting, positive change.

This achievement would not have been possible without the generosity and commitment of so many people. We extend our heartfelt thanks to The Rotary Foundation, our international Rotary partners, Rotary clubs across District 1150 and beyond, our donors, funding partners, volunteers, school staff and everyone who supported the project through fundraising, sponsorship or practical help. Every contribution, large or small, played a vital part.

Rotary is often described as people of action, and this project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when Rotarians unite with a shared purpose. Together we have not only created a playground, we have created opportunities, inclusion, laughter and memories that will benefit children and families for many years to come.

This playground will stand as a lasting legacy of Rotary’s commitment to “Service Above Self” and to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to play, belong and thrive.
