Two powerful earthquakes, measuring between 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck the Venezuelan province of Yaracuy on June 24th at 6:04 pm local time. A state of emergency has been declared and a massive international aid effort is now underway to support the devastated region.
In response to the crisis, Llanelli Rotary Club has stepped forward to fund a ShelterBox, ensuring immediate, life-saving aid reaches those who have lost everything.
ShelterBox is already on the ground, working hand in hand with Rotary in Venezuela and local partners to conduct urgent damage assessments. The destruction is widespread and the immediate need for emergency shelter is critical. Rotary's rapid funding will help deliver essential items directly to the worst-hit communities, including:
Disaster relief tents and shelter repair kits
Heavy-duty rope and tools
Solar-powered lights
Thermal blankets and sleeping mats
By drawing on years of global earthquake-response experience, ShelterBox and Rotary are ensuring that families can stay safe, warm, and secure as they begin the long process of recovery.
A ShelterBox is a rugged, heavy-duty green crate packed with specialised survival equipment. Tailored specifically to the needs of each disaster, a standard box typically contains a durable, weather-resistant family tent, a water purification system, solar lights and thermal blankets.
It is designed to provide families displaced by disaster or conflict with the tools they need to remain healthy, self-sufficient, and safe as they rebuild their lives.
Thank You: The steadfast support of the Llanelli community makes responses like this possible. Together with Rotary in Venezuela, we are turning compassion into action.
