Co-operating clubs produce a good dam result
Farmers and their families in theKyumbuni community in the normally dry ManzaaValley near Machakos in Kenya are rejoicing. They not only have a constant source of clean fresh water but are now able to planttrees to improve soil and water conservation and have crops to harvest. This miracle has been achieved by the construction of a network of sanddams providing water to thousands of people living in the valley. The Kyumbuni self-help group provided the labour and local materials and were assisted by the Brentford-based charity Excellent - Pioneers of Sand Dams.
The latest dam was funded by the Rotary clubs of Feltham, Kew Gardens, and Twickenham upon Thames, and Garstang & Over Wyre, in co-operation with the Rotary Club of Nairobi South, and a Rotary International matching grant.
