Cheque Presentation 2021
Despite Covid restrictions, Staines Rotary were able to take Santa on his usual Christmas rounds through to streets, assisted by groups of volunteer collectors raising funds for local charities.
Adults and children alike were delighted to welcome Santa in these difficult times and donated generously to the collectors.
Covid precluded the normal cheque presentation event, being replaced by a virtual event attended by Rotary District Officers, Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey, Nick Wood-Dow and Mayor of Spelthorne, Councillor Colin Barnard.
Charities receiving an award, attended to describe how they would be spending the money. They included Home-Start Spelthorne Shooting Star Chase Hospice, Spelthorne Dementia Support, Spelthorne Youth, 6th Staines (Christchurch) Scout Group, St Hilda's Ashford, The Phoenix Project and Transform Housing & Support, most of whom had supplied volunteer street collectors to go out with Santa. They would be using the funds to support vulnerable folk including families, the homeless, dementia sufferers, children with special needs or life-limiting conditions, supporting missions to vulnerable folk overseas, and providing safe equipment for children’s activities.
The Rotary District officers commended Staines Rotary on overcoming the Covid restrictions to conduct successful Christmas collections. Mayor Colin concluded by thanking the members for its good work with the local community.

2020 marked the 10th year that Staines Rotary had presented every child in Year 5 at all the Primary Schools in Staines and Laleham with an Usborne Illustrated Dictionary, which help them with their school work.
