Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)

Every year the Club provides the opportunity for four students from local schools to attend the RYLA, an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary where they develop skills as leaders while having fun and making lasting connections.

The students were very happy to give Club members the following feedback -

What did we do?

At RYLA we did multiple activities per day that helped push us out of our comfort zone.  For example we did: rock climbing, high ropes, kayaking and raft building.

We also did fun group activities to help us with our social skills like a fashion show, which also helped us build our confidence.

A different group presented news each morning which included the weather and funny events of the previous day.

The People

At first it is the most scary thing in the world but once you get over yourself it's the best thing in the world.

The friends you make there are for life.  You don't realise the connections you make until you leave.

We don't regret it at all and think it was the best thing we have ever done.  If we could go back, we would.

Why we would recommend it:

Although it was so scary and sounds like something you would never do in a million years, it'll be the best thing you do for yourself.

The confidence you build and independence you discover is life changing.  We wouldn't trade this experience for the world and neither would you.

Following the success of this Awards scheme over the last two years, the Club is planning to sponsor another four students in 2026.

Trust us when we say it's an opportunity of a lifetime.
