Donations to Charity at home and abroad

Thanks to the fund raising efforts of our Members & volunteers, the Club is able to donate many thousands of pounds every year to charities, most of them local to our area.

At our lunch on Thursday 2nd May, we received a presentation from Vanessa Rose Scott representing the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Vanessa has been totall deaf since birth, but with a cochlear implant, a wonderful speech and language therapist some years ago, and a terrific hearing dog called Ellis, Vanessa leads a normal life.

She told us about the training that 10-year-old Ellis received as a pup at one of the two Hearing Dogs screening & training centres in the UK, and how he had helped her over the past nine years.  He was ready to give her a nudge in the morning when the alarm went off, when the doorbell rang and even when the dishwasher had finished!  She also told us about his time without his waistcoat on when he was off-duty, being just a dog having fun.

It was a humorous and eloquent presentation that we all enjoyed immensely, and we were pleased to present Vanessa with a cheque for £250 to go to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People to help train other young pups.
