On Wednesday 5th March, a team of Eyemouth High School students represented their school in the Rotary Young Technologists competition held at Beeslack School Community High School, Penicuik. This year the Rotary Young Technologist Competition had over 400 young people taking part in venues all across Rotary District 1020.
The task as always was challenging, each team had to design and construct a a device for picking up and transporting a tennis ball from a box (1.5 metres away) , to a target without dropping it or allowing it to roll using only the wood, string, straws, glue and rubber bands provided together with lots of ingenuity.
The competition was fiercely contested nonetheless between the teams of young people including three age categories; foundation level 11-14yrs, Intermediate level 14-16 yrs. and senior level 16 plus. The teams represented were High Schools from, Eyemouth, Dalkeith, Penicuik, Musselburgh and Prestonpans.
The Eyemouth team competing in the Intermediate section were, Elizabeth Edmondson, Wictoria Borodavkina, Roddy Blackie and Tom Nisbet, supported by their Technology Teacher Mr Paulin and Eyemouth Rotary Club Past President Jo Pawley, Rotarian Brian Ulyatt and his wife Jan. They acquitted themselves splendidly, worked well as a team and came second.
