Handover Dinner 27th June 2016

Incoming President Bob addressed the club with the following message:

District Governor Elect Olive, Past District Governor Ian, Immediate Past President Judy, Past Presidents, Fellow Rotarians, Guests, Family & Friends.

My first very pleasant duty is to present IPP Judy with her PP insignia. Judy has worked hard over her period in office, she is a very caring and thoughtful lady who has done much to enhance the good name of the Rotary Club of Dunbar during her time and will I am sure still have several projects she will be working on.
I will now present our new Vice President and President Elect Andrew with his insignia.

We here at the Rotary Club of Dunbar live up to the Rotary motto of “Service before self” and work to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education, promote peace, and eradicate polio, as well as countless local community, youth and charity support projects.
We also have lots of fun especially at Duck Races !!! and Monday nights are full of banter and wit along with serious discussion and suggestions of what we do next.

This year we will be working even harder to eradicate polio in Afghanistan and Pakistan and we are “ This close” to ending polio but if we take our eyes off the problem we will be ”This far”.  We will be planting 5,000 purple crocus bulbs around the town to get our message across.  We need to immunise over 2 million children in India alone.
 
This club of dedicated and hardworking members have many projects which we will be working on during my year in office – from the Dunbar Charity Shop to building a refuge in North East India at Kalimpong, from helping out Dunbar Harbour Lights young people to giving aid to East Timor, helping out with Christmas lights and RNLI Day. Over the many years this club has been in existence we have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to help those in dire straits who need our help.

May I thank you all for coming along tonight, you have made an old man very proud.  I intend to give all my support to this wonderful club of diverse members who are funny, witty, hard working and caring but most of all A TEAM - I couldn’t be in better company.

The Rotarian of the Year Award was presented to Rhona Bell and the winner of the Wellie Boot Award was Graeme Darkes
