At a recent meeting of Dunbar Rotary Club, members welcomed two young golfers who had represented the town at the annual Rotary District Young Golfers Competition held at Lockerbie during the summer. The pair, Alastair Fell and Jamie Chapman, who are both junior members of Dunbar Golf Club, had been placed in both the handicap and team scratch categories. In presenting the youngsters with their trophies, club president Dr. Judy Greenwood said “ Once again the talents of our well-coached junior members of Dunbar Golf Club have brought recognition and honour to the town. On behalf of the club I congratulate both of them”.
Also at the meeting members heard that a total of £500 had been raised at the club’s coffee morning held at the end of September in aid of MacMillan Nurses President Judy thanked those who had supported the event and in particular, Dunbar Sailing Club who had offered the venue. Other donations agreed by club members at the meeting included £500 to the local Christmas lights group, £1000 to Mary’s Meals and the same amount to Edinburgh Direct Aid who are actively engaged in providing educational support to Syrian refugees located in temporary camps in Lebanon.
Club matters then turned to future events and plans for the annual charity shop were discussed. Organising convenor, Wendy Badger, confirmed that the event will be held over two weeks from Monday 19th October, when donations will be welcome before the official opening for sales on Saturday 24th October . The final day will be a week later and the shop, at 130 High Street (former Smiths Bakers) will be manned between 10am and 3pm each day.
