What is RoSET

The Rotary Club of Sidcup Educational Trust - or RoSET for short- was set up in 1985 as a registered charity (No 293030) with the aim of making financial grants to young people up to the age of 25 years who live, are being educated or work in our area, and who need help with pursuing educational and character forming projects. Grants are given for a wide variety of projects both at home and abroad. We encourage young people from all backgrounds and abilities to make use of the opportunity provided by RoSET. Please note that grants cannot be given to support normal college or university fees.

Our Main Objective

The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to young people to enable them to take part in challenging and character-building ventures. Any award will be a contribution towards the total cost of the venture and will be determined on an individual basis.

Examples of Awards

Over the years RoSET has made over 200 awards enabling young people to participate in activities both at home and abroad. RoSET has assisted young people in travelling to many parts of the world to pursue a wide variety of voluntary work. This has included teaching underprivileged children, participating in conservation research projects, and attending World Scout Jamborees, to name but a few. Closer to home, the performing arts and sporting activities have been supported along with participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. In recent times, RoSET has teamed up with the Bexley Council Sports Department to form an Olympic Legacy programme to assist young athletes in their chosen sporting disciplines. Music in Bexley has received considerable support over the years through a long-term association with Bexley Music and its predecessors.

How to Apply

Applications should be made on the form (below), which can be downloaded, together with the attached notes, which are designed to help you with your application. Note 5 deals with the Confidential Report which is essential in every case.

What if I am successful?

After you have successfully completed your event, you will be expected to submit a brief report about your project and how you have benefited personally from it. You may be invited to a Sidcup Rotary Club meeting to talk about your experience. We are always very happy to have successful applicants speak to the club about their experience. Should the event/project be cancelled or the applicant be unable to attend the grant must be fully refunded.

Important Information

The Trustees reserve the right to refuse any application without giving reasons for their decision, which shall be deemed final. The RoSET Award Scheme is operated by the Rotary Club of Sidcup on behalf of the Trustees of the Trust. The capital to finance the scheme was contributed by members, their friends, local firms and organisations as part of their voluntary support to the local community.
