RoSET

ROSET - or to give it its full name The Rotary Club of Sidcup Educational Trust - has for many years now been giving financial help to young people under 26 who live, work or are being educated in the Sidcup area, to participate in character-building, educational or other positive activities including sport and performing arts, that they might not otherwise be able to afford. If you have or know youngsters who could benefit then please encourage them to get in touch. It could change their lives.

Young Enterprise

Sidcup Rotary Club shares the belief held by the national charity Young Enterprise that the potential of the UK’s young people is unlimited, and an academic education on its own is not enough. Young Enterprise seeks to motivate young people to succeed in the changing world of work by equipping them with the work skills, knowledge and confidence they need. Participation in Young Enterprise programmes develops key employability skills outside of the classroom.

Through experiential learning, supported by volunteers from a range of industry sectors, young people are able to develop practical skills to prepare them for life beyond statutory education and the world of work.
Young Enterprise’s approach aims to support young people to develop the skills, knowledge and abilities across eight key employability competencies, which will enable them to make successful transitions into further education, employment and
or training destinations.
Past President Philip Woodman has represented the Rotary Club of Sidcup, which has been an active supporter of this initiative for the last 25 years through its Youth Opportunities Programme.
Philip said, “I have found it immensely rewarding to assist young people develop their business enterprise knowledge. In our rapidly changing world the Young Enterprise Programmes can help them to gain the Understanding, skill sets and confidence which will assist them with their University Personal Statements, their CVs and their journey through business life.”
Explore ways to get involved locally:

That's not all

The committee, and other Rotarians continued to support Chis n Sid with invigilation duties, the May exam season this year passed unnoticed though!

In addition to providing reading assistance at Orchard school, we also undertook to revitalise several of their raised flower beds. Unfortunately lockdown prevented us viewing the results!

S.I.G {Sports Interest Group) events were organised with the highly competitive Petanque competitions and the Pool evening

Vocational Visits were developed, initially targeting places locally, and those which were free! Attempts to visit Coca Cola were unsuccessful, but trips were made to Amazon Tilbury Fulfilment centre, Waitrose distribution at Aylesford, Provender Nurseries at Swanley, & Smurfit Kappa at Snodland.
We are due to have another visit to Waitrose when circumstances permit, such was the enthusiastic initial response. A scheduled visits to The Globe Theatre had to be aborted.

As a final collective action we solicited recommended tradespeople from the Membership. This was taken up enthusiastically and in June we 'published' the composite list.
