Open Garden for Ukraine in the beautiful garden of a member of Sevenoaks Rotary.
Rotary Garden Party for Ukraine
Members of Sevenoaks Rotary Club were delighted to support the following event.
More than 200 people came to the garden of Rotary Club member Bob Ogley and his wife Fern on a rare wet day in May 2022 to help raise funds for the beleaguered people of Ukraine. The amount raised amounted to more than £4,000 and this was sent directly to Ukraine via Christian Aid.
The event would not have been possible without the help of Sevenoaks Lions Club, Sevenoaks Round Table, the Air Cadets and friends from the villages of Brasted, Sundridge, Ide Hill and Toys Hill who donated plants, cakes and their time.
At least three local families came with their Ukranian guests, all of them with horrific details about the Russian invasion of their country. They spoke about the warmth of the greeting given to them by their hosts in Sevenoaks and were delighted to meet their fellow citizens.
All of the adults had a story to tell about their escape – their faces no longer haunted by the sight and sound of Putin’s tanks but grateful that so many people were prepared to come in the rain to an English country garden .
