ROTARY PRIMARY SCHOOLS QUIZ

Every year Currie Balerno Rotary organizes the local Primary Schools Quiz as part of a Rotary District competition. This year it was hosted by Dean Park Primary School and Head Teacher Nicola Kurth welcomed everyone.

There were six schools competing – Balerno Dean Park, Clovenstone, Currie, Juniper Green, Nether Currie and Ratho - fielding 15 teams of four, a total of 60 young quizzers. There were six questions in each of eight rounds, which included language and literacy, maths  and questions about Scotland.

In 2024 and 2025, Ratho were the winners and went on to compete at the South of Scotland District Final. This year they came third in a closely fought competition, just one point behind Nether Currie, who in turn were one point behind the winning team from Currie Primary School.

And what next? Currie will go on, of course, to the Area Final but they will not be the only team going forward. Normally the top two teams go forward in the competition but this year, in view of the numbers involved locally – 60 young quizzers from six schools – it has been decided that our top three schools will go on to compete at Area level.

So Currie, Nether Currie and Ratho will be at the City and Central Scotland Area Final on 14 May. We look forward to them all bringing credit on themselves and their schools – and to Currie Balerno Rotary, of course.
