The event was held at the request of our Secretary, Theresa Douglas, to say thank you on behalf of her grand-daughter Eva, who spent a life-saving five months in the hospital receiving fantastic care.
The Casino Night was an enjoyable event but it was all about raising money for the hospital and to help buy items that could make life just that little bit better for the patients and their families; and on 16 March Currie Balerno Rotary was able to present £1500 to the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.
Every day seriously ill children and their families face a potentially life-changing hospital visit, which can be frightening not just for the children themselves but also, inevitably, for the parents. We hope our modest donation can be used to ease the pressures on the staff and to bring some distraction to the children and their families through the clown doctors and birthday and Christmas presents perhaps for the patients and also their siblings.
We were able also to make smaller donations to two volunteer groups who make a difference – Octopus for a Preemie, Scotland, who knit and crochet Octopals for premature baby units across Scotland and the Edinburgh Linus Group, who make and donate patchwork quilts and blankets.
Seen here are (standing from the left) Rotary President Ken McCunn with a cheque for £300 for Octopus for a Preemie, who were unable to attend, Amy Russell of the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity with a cheque for £1500 and Alice Keane and Pip Peat from Edinburgh Linus (£300). In front is mum Stephanie with little Eva.
Currie Balerno Rotary want to thank everyone who supported the Casino Night and made these donations possible. A wonderful result.
