Primary Schools Quiz

annual quiz reinstated in 2024

Quiz underway!

We were delighted to get the Primary Schools Quiz up and running again.

We held our first Primary Schools Quiz in 2011 and it was an annual event until 2019, so we are not without experience. But then COVID intervened and this is our first competition after a break of four years. This year the host school was Clovenstone Primary School and the event brought together teams from Clovenstone and from Nether Currie, Balerno’s Dean Park and Ratho Primary Schools. Together they fielded eight teams with a total of 31 determined young competitors and here they are hard at it, each team supervised by a Rotary member.

There were eight rounds, each of six questions and it was not easy. Fortunately, the Rotary members were not required to provide the answers themselves – only to mark the team papers when the answers were displayed on the screen. The results were all impressive and it was a close-run thing but there had to be a winner and that winner was the Ratho Blue team, with the other Ratho team coming second, just one point behind. The winners – Sam, Caleb, Cooper and Harry - are seen here receiving their awards from Rotary President John Wilson.

The winning team go on to the next round, the Area competition, and the winners there go on to the District Final. We hope to see Ratho progress to that Final.

This was a wonderful occasion. Clovenstone Primary School and Head Teacher Steven Jamieson provided an excellent venue and were most welcoming. The children all enjoyed it, as did their teachers; and for our part we were delighted to see the return of the Primary Schools Quiz after that break of four years.
